On September 26, 2025, a meeting was held at the Faculty of Information and Document Management of Baku State University (BSU) with the participation of the faculty’s graduate and veteran of the Patriotic War, Sarxan Veysalli, on the occasion of September 27 – Memorial Day.
The event began with a moment of silence in honor of National Leader Heydar Aliyev and the memory of the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the liberation of Azerbaijani lands. Associate Professor Rashad Qardashov, moderator of the event and faculty member of the Department of Information and Document Management, highlighted the historical significance of the 44-day Patriotic War that began on September 27, 2020, and ended with a glorious victory. He also provided participants with detailed information about the military journey of Sərxan Veysalli.
The war veteran, who had been awarded the medals “For the Liberation of Fuzuli” and “For the Liberation of Kalbajar” by the relevant decrees of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, spoke about the military operations against the occupying forces and shared his combat experiences with the audience. He emphasized that the liberation of the homeland was achieved through the strong leadership of the victorious Commander-in-Chief, the unity of the people, and the sacrifice of martyrs and veterans — a bright page in the centuries-old history of Azerbaijan. He expressed his pride that the Azerbaijani flag now waves over territories that had been under occupation for more than 30 years thanks to the successful operations of the victorious army, saying: “I am grateful to return to my beloved University and faculty today as a soldier of the victorious army.”
Head of the Editorial and Publishing Department of BSU and veteran of the First Karabakh War, Knyaz Aslan, informed students about Armenia’s policy of aggression, the causes and consequences of the now-resolved Karabakh conflict, and the heavy toll it took. He underlined that practical steps toward resolving the conflict began after the return of National Leader Heydar Aliyev to political power in Azerbaijan. He stressed that with the historic victory, the blood of all martyrs had been avenged, their ideals had triumphed, and the sacred memory of those who gave their lives for the freedom and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan would always live on in the hearts of the people.
