Baku State University (BSU) has been ranked among the top 600 universities globally according to the 2025 “Impact Rankings” published by Times Higher Education (THE), one of the world's most prestigious ranking agencies. The university secured a position in the 401–600 range, marking a significant improvement from last year’s 1001–1500 range.

Out of 2,318 higher education institutions worldwide included in this year’s ranking, BSU made remarkable progress by being evaluated in 15 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), compared to only 9 SDGs last year.

BSU's overall performance score increased by 35%, rising from 53.2 to 71.8 — a reflection of the university’s strategic reforms and initiatives in the field of sustainable development.

BSU placed in the global top 100 universities for four SDGs: SDG 1 (No Poverty), SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 5 (Gender Equality), and SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities). Additionally, the university ranked in the 101–200 range for SDG 15 (Life on Land) and SDG 16 (Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions), and in the 201–300 range for SDG 2 (Zero Hunger), SDG 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation), SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), and SDG 14 (Life Below Water).

For context, the THE Impact Rankings assess universities' contributions to social, economic, and environmental development based on the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals. The rankings evaluate institutions through objective indicators such as research activity, governance, social impact, and public commitments.

This achievement highlights BSU’s growing global reputation and its firm commitment to the SDGs. The university’s upward movement in the rankings reflects its consistent and impactful actions in areas like social responsibility, environmental protection, inclusive education, and equal opportunity. It also enhances BSU’s appeal as an international academic partner and strengthens its competitiveness in the global higher education arena.
