Baku State University (BSU) is dedicated to advancing sustainable development and community engagement through a wide range of outreach activities. Educational Outreach Beyond Campus

• Ad-Hoc Activities:

  • During National Science Day 2025, the Physics and Chemistry faculties conducted hands-on laboratory demonstrations for 200 high school students from Baku.

  • The Faculty of History delivered a public lecture on “Cultural Heritage of Azerbaijan” at a local community center, attracting over 100 participants.

• Programmed / Recurring Activities:

  • The School-University Engagement Program (since 2022) sends BSU students monthly to Baku and regional schools to deliver workshops in mathematics, literature, and STEM subjects. Over 500 school students participated in 2024.

  • Student volunteers from the Faculty of Computer Science run a recurring Coding Club in local schools, providing weekly programming tutorials and mentorship.

  • The Faculty of Biology organizes an annual Summer Science Camp for high school students from across Azerbaijan, focusing on environmental science and laboratory research skills.

Baku State University (BSU) actively engages the local community to raise awareness and provide education on the importance of energy efficiency and clean energy. These programs combine workshops, public lectures, training courses, and collaborative projects with local schools, municipalities, and NGOs.

   • BSU’s Faculty of Physics and Engineering organizes regular workshops for local residents on topics such as home energy conservation, energy-efficient appliances, and sustainable building practices.

   • Example: In 2025, a workshop series in Sabail district trained 150 households on practical ways to reduce electricity and heating consumption.

2. Clean Energy Awareness Campaigns:

   • BSU runs awareness campaigns in partnership with the Ministry of Energy and local municipalities to promote solar energy, wind power, and other renewable technologies.

   • Example: In 2025 , BSU hosted a “Solar for Schools” campaign, providing demonstrations and training for students and teachers on installing and maintaining small solar panels.

3. Hands-On Training Programs:

   • The university’s Renewable Energy Research Center offers short-term courses for community members and local business owners on energy audits, solar panel installation, and energy-efficient lighting systems.

   • Example: In 2024, a training program certified 50 local electricians in energy-efficient building retrofits.

4. Community Research and Collaboration Projects:

   • BSU engages local neighborhoods in participatory research projects assessing energy use and piloting sustainable solutions.

   • Example: In 2024, a pilot project in Nasimi district measured household energy consumption and installed smart meters, reducing electricity waste by an average of 12% per household.

5. Student-Led Outreach Programs:

   • Student organizations at BSU conduct seminars and public lectures on climate change, renewable energy, and energy efficiency for community centers and local NGOs.

   • Example: In 2024, the BSU Green Campus Club ran a “Clean Energy Week,” reaching over 500 local citizens with demonstrations, educational games, and renewable energy exhibits.

Outreach to Industry and Policy-Makers
BSU provides direct services to local industry, including energy efficiency assessments, workshops, and research on renewable energy solutions. The university collaborates with government agencies to support the development of policies related to clean energy and energy-efficient technologies. 9. The 1st International Scientific Conference titled “A Sustainable Future: Integrated Development of Earth Sciences and Ecology” has commenced at Baku State University (BSU). The conference is organized by BSU with scientific partnership from Konya Technical University (Türkiye), Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, Satbayev Kazakh National Research Technical University (Kazakhstan), the University of Geological Sciences (Uzbekistan), and Banat University of Agricultural Sciences and Veterinary Medicine (Romania).

On June 24, 2025, Advisor to the Rector of Baku State University (BSU) on Digitalization and Information Technologies, Shabnam Safarova, represented BSU at the international panel titled “Reimagining Higher Education in the Islamic World: Innovation, Sustainability, and Global Impact.” The panel was held within the framework of the 6th Vice Chancellors’ Forum of Universities in the Islamic World (VC Forum 2025) in Rabat, Kingdom of Morocco. 30.  June 18, the rector of Baku State University (BSU), Elchin Babayev, participated in a panel discussion held within the framework of the Global Sustainable Development Congress organized in Istanbul, Türkiye, by the prestigious ranking organization Times Higher Education (THE) and the Council of Higher Education of Türkiye (YÖK). The panel, titled “Azerbaijan Showcase: How Universities are Shaping Their National Sustainability Legacy,” was moderated by Ulkar Sattarova, director of the State Agency for Science and Higher Education of Azerbaijan.
